The value of the vote of an MP (Member of Parliament) in the election of the President of India is determined by dividing the total population of the country by the total number of elected MPs in the Lok Sabha, and then dividing the result by 1,000.
The formula used to calculate the value of an MP’s vote is as follows:
Value of an MP’s vote = (Total population of the country / Total number of elected MPs in the Lok Sabha) / 1,000
As per the last available census data from 2011, the total population of India was 1,210,854,977. Currently, the total number of elected MPs in the Lok Sabha is 545. Therefore, the value of an MP’s vote in the Presidential election is calculated as:
Value of an MP’s vote = (1,210,854,977 / 545) / 1,000
Value of an MP’s vote = 2,224
Therefore, the value of the vote of each MP in the Presidential election is 2,224.
It is important to note that the value of the vote of an MP is the same across all states in India, unlike the value of the vote of an MLA which varies from state to state based on the population and number of elected members of the Legislative Assembly in the state.
