What is SSC CGL Exam?
SSC CGL Exam, or Combined Graduate Level Examination, is a national-level competitive exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) of India. The exam is conducted to recruit candidates for various Group B and C non-technical posts in the central government.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for the SSC CGL Exam, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of India
- Have a graduation degree from a recognized university
- Be at least 18 years of age and not more than 30 years of age as of the closing date of the application (relaxations are applicable for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates)
Exam Pattern
The SSC CGL Exam is a computer-based exam (CBT) consisting of four tiers:
Tier-1: This is a screening test consisting of 100 questions of 100 marks each. The questions are of multiple choice (MCQ) type. The duration of the exam is 120 minutes.
Tier-2: This is a descriptive test consisting of two papers – General English and an Essay. The duration of the General English paper is 60 minutes and the duration of the Essay paper is 30 minutes.
Tier-3: This is a skill test for those candidates who have qualified in Tier-1 and Tier-2. The skill test may be in the form of a typing test, data entry test, or computer proficiency test.
Tier-4: This is a physical efficiency test (PET) for those candidates who have qualified in Tier-1, Tier-2, and Tier-3. The PET may consist of a variety of tests, such as running, jumping, and lifting weights.
Important Dates of the SSC CGL Exam
The important dates for the SSC CGL Exam are as follows:
Notification: The notification for the SSC CGL Exam is usually released in the month of February or March.
Application Submission: The last date for application submission is usually in the month of May or June.
Exam: The exam is usually conducted in the month of July or August.
Result: The result of the exam is usually declared in the month of September or October.
