Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE)

The Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE) is a national-level competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the recruitment of eligible candidates to the Indian Medical Services (IMS) and Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).

Pattern of Combined Medical Services Examination

The examination is conducted in two phases:

Phase I: This phase consists of a written examination, which is a screening test. The written examination is conducted in two papers:

Paper I: General Knowledge
Paper II: Medical Science

Phase II: This phase consists of an interview. The interview is conducted to assess the candidate’s personality, suitability, and communication skills.

The CMSE is a very competitive examination, and only a small number of candidates are selected for the IMS and AFMS. The examination is a good opportunity for eligible candidates to pursue a career in the medical field.

Eligibility Criteria for Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE)

To be eligible to appear for the CMSE, candidates must fulfill the following criteria:

  • They must be Indian citizens.
  • They must have passed the 12th standard examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects.
  • They must have a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in the 12th standard examination.
  • They must be medically fit.

Application Process for CMSE

The application process for the CMSE is conducted online. Candidates can apply for the examination through the UPSC website. The application process begins in the month of June and ends in the month of July.

Fees for CMS Exam

The application fee for the CMSE is Rs. 1000 for General/OBC candidates and Rs. 250 for SC/ST candidates.

Syllabus

The syllabus for the CMSE is as follows:

Phase I

General Knowledge: Indian Polity, Indian Economy, Indian History, Geography, Current Affairs, Science and Technology, and General Mental Ability.
Medical Science: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, and Forensic Medicine.

Phase II

The interview is conducted to assess the candidate’s personality, suitability, and communication skills.
