SSC (Staff Selection Commission) conducts Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination (SSC CHSL Exam) every year to fill up the vacant posts in various ministries and Central Government Organisations. The official notification for SSC CHSL Exam can be found on Commission’s official website.

Eligibility:

To appear in SSC CHSL Exam, a candidate must be-
a)- A citizen of India, or
b)- A subject of Nepal, or
c)- A subject of Bhutan, or
d)- A Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1st Jan 1962 intentionally to get permanently settled in India, or
e)- A person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam intentionally to get settled in India.
For all categories defined in (b), (c), (d) & (e), a certificate of eligibility should have been issued by Government of India in the favor of the subject.

Application Fee:

The fee payable for the SSC CHSL Exam is Rs. 100 only. This fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, any VISA Card, Mastercard, Maestro Card, Rupay Card or offline at any SBI Branch after printing a Fee Challan.

Exemption of Fee:

A person with disabilities, Ex-servicemen, Women candidates, Candidates from SC & ST categories are exempted from paying the fee.

Candidates should note that Fee once paid will not be refunded in any case. Also, applications without fee will be rejected without any further notice.

Age:

Age limit for SSC CHSL Exam is 18 years to 27 years. For certain categories, relaxation in the upper age is provided.
Candidate should note that the date of birth filled by the candidate in the online application will be accepted as the final DOB. It should be the same as recorded in the matriculation certificate/secondary Exam certificate. No request for a change in date of birth will be considered.

Educational Qualifications:

LDC/JSA, PA/SA, DEO: Candidate must have passed 12th standard or equivalent from a recognized board/university.
For DEO Grade-A (DEO in the office of C & AG): A candidate must have passed the 12th standard in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board/University.

Physical Standard:

Please note that, for BRO (Border Roads Organisation), persons with disabilities are not eligible to apply.
LDC/JSA: One Arm Affected, Both Legs Affected, One Leg Affected, One Arm & One Leg Affected, Blind, Low Vision, Hearing Handicapped can apply.
PA/SA: One leg affected, one arm affected, one arm and One leg affected, both legs but not arm affected, Muscular weakness & limited physical endurance, Cerebral Palsy, Leprosy cured, Dwarfism, Acid attack victims, Blind, Low Vision, Hard of hearing, Specific learning disability can apply.
DEO: One arm affected, one leg affected, one arm & one leg affected, both legs affected, hearing handicapped, Low vision can apply.
For BRO, physical standards will be as per the official notification. Only male candidates can apply for the post of BRO.

Exam Pattern:

SSC CHSL Exam consists of 3 tiers-
Tier 1: Computer-based examination.
Tier 2: Descriptive Exam.
Tier3: Skill test/Typing exam.
Candidates have to score minimum marks as fixed by the commission to appear in the Tier 2 examination. For Tier 3, there will be a shortlisting based on the performance of the candidate in Tier 2.

Tier 1-

A total of 60 minutes will be provided to complete the tier 1 exam. Tier 1 Questions will be objective type/multiple choice type set bilingually except part 1 (English). All questions carry a negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer.

Tier 2:
It will be descriptive type in “pen and paper” mode with a time duration of 1 hour. This paper comprises of writing an essay & a letter/application. A candidate has to score a minimum of 33% of marks to get qualified in this exam.

Tier 3:
There will be a skill test/typing test with a required number of key depressions per jour depending upon the post applied.
